UNAIR NEWS – After conducting internal re-structuring measure for two weeks, Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) is ready to provide healthcare services with the new normal standards. It is an effort to provide better services to Covid-19 patients.

In this regard, on Monday, June 8, UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih said that in an effort to support the government program regarding the new normal era, UNAIR has made a preparation for it. In UNAIR environment, he explained, the new normal implementation would first be carried out in UNAIR Hospital (RSUA) because there is an urgency for new normal environment in RSUA.

“It can be a stepping stone so in the future, new normal implementation can be followed and implemented well throughout UNAIR environment,” he said.

New normal implementation in RSUA, continued Prof. Nasih, is started by separating services between non-Covid-19 general patients and patients of Covid-19. For Covid-19 patients, as of June 8, 2020, the treatments are officially and fully conducted at the Special Hospital for Infectious Disease (RSKI) located in the east of RSUA.

“This is also supported by separating access and parking between general patients in RSUA and Covid-19 patients in RSKI,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasih also conveyed that in order to optimize Covid-19 patient services at RSKI, several facilities have also been well prepared such as 145 beds, 38 of them are for intensive care unit and 107 are high care unit. RSKI also has 117 beds in a room with negative pressure.

“Even the ER that handles Covid is also established separately, on the east side of RSKI building. So patients can be accepted there and immediately be treated for the next phase, “said Prof. Nasih

In addition, the handling of Covid-19 at RSKI involved 45 medical specialists and 250 nurses including volunteers. The RSKI is also equipped with a robot that helps doctors and CCTV that can rotate 360 degrees.

“So doctors and other medical workers do not have to meet patients often. This is to reduce the potential for Covid-19 transmission from patients to doctors and other medical workers, “he explained.

According to Prof. Nasih, the hospital also prepares Covid-19 patient mortuary separated from the general patient mortuary. The mortuary at RSKI is one of the most modern and is equipped with sophisticated equipment and safe. Once again, this is an attempt to prepare for a new normal by separating general patient services in the RSUA with Covid-19 services in RSKI.

“We’d like to thank the East Java Provincial Government, Surabaya City Government, CT Corp, the Ministry of Education, and donors who have fully supported this new service effort,” he concluded.
