UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to make achievements in international realm. This time UNAIR students made a brilliant achievement in the ASEAN arena. The achievement was won by two students of Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga (FST UNAIR) in the Malaysia Speaking Mind Competition on Saturday, August 3.
Located at UiTM (Mara University of Technology) Cawangan, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Pilah Campus, there were 42 participants who participated in the prestigious competition. Namely, UiTM Negeri Sembilan Kuala Pilah Campus, UiTM Negeri Sembilan Rembau Campus, UiTM Kedah Sungai Petani Campus, Taylor’s College, Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), and Universitas Airlangga, represented by 4 students from FST.
According to Dr. Hartati, M.Si as Vice Dean I FST, Malaysia Speaking Mind Competition is a competition to convey creative ideas based on student research held throughout ASEAN.
“The competition is similar to 3MT (3 Minutes Thesis, ed) competition. Participants in the competition present their research results or ideas within three minutes. The evaluation points are not only on the content offered, but also the delivery method that is easily understood by all groups, “he said.
In the competition, there were ten champions taken from the competition. Two of the four FST students from UNAIR delegation returned home with a trophy. He was Nur Aidatuzzahro (Physics student 2017) won 2nd place and Belindha Ayu Ardhani (Statistics student 2017) with 4th place.
“Congratulation for FST UNAIR students who have achieved brilliant achievements in the Malaysia Speaking Mind Competition,” he said.
Dr. Hartati said that to be able to participate in the competition, students passed the faculty selection first. They passed the faculty selection by collecting CVs and presenting research results.
“Then 3 students were chosen who later received fees from the Faculty. While one other student joined the competition at his own expense, “he explained.
The four students did a lot of practice well in advance of the competition. Preparations include the improvement of content, grammar and speech delivery.
“Here, they train with Dr. Nurina (Faculty ambassador FST), assisted by Dida (Deputy Dean III Staff). They also practiced with lecturers from their respective study programs. In addition, enthusiasm, motivation, and support are always given by the leaders at FST UNAIR, “he added.
Dr. Hartati advised that students can always hone their abilities to achieve achievements. No less important, hold fast excellent with morality. “Hopefully students always hone the ability to achieve achievements, to be the best and foremost, both in competition and recognition, at the national and international level, while still maintaining excellent with morality,” he concluded.
