UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was chosen as one of the 2019 MIPAnet School Program organizing events. The event was opened by the Executive Secretary of MIPAnet Prof. Dr. Sudrajat, MS., Has the theme “Natural Product Chemistry” which is one of the focus areas of study at FST.
MIPAnet School activity runs from Monday to Wednesday June 29–31 at 2nd floor FST Meeting Room, Campus C UNAIR. The activity was attended by around 50 participants from several universities in Indonesia. Among them, UNAIR, Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS), Surabaya State University (Unesa), Hangtuah University Surabaya, and Diponegoro University (Undip). Besides, it invited the MARA Technology University (UITM) Malaysia.
Vice Dean III FST Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah, M.Si said that MIPAnet School is one of MIPAnet Work Programs in 2019. Besides, the purpose of MIPAnet School is students can conduct research.
“The goal is that students can do research, starting with choosing samples, taking samples, knowing extraction process, taking pure compounds and determine their structure, “he said.
Dr. Nanik added, the selection of natural product chemistry as a theme of this year program because it can be followed from various fields of science such as chemistry, biology, and pharmacy. “Natural products taken are secondary metabolic chemicals from plant bio-actives which are tested for their antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-cancer activities which are closely related to biology, pharmacy, and medicine,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Syawani, one of the participants of the 2019 MIPAnet School from UITM, said the activity provided tremendous benefits. Especially for final semester students. “Very informative can help friends who are comfortable working and for us (final semester students, Red) can refresh the material for the final project,” he added
