NEWS UNAIR – Received funding from Kemenristekdikti DRPM Budget Year 2019, Community Service and Community Development Agency (LPPM) Universitas Airlangga carried out Community Partnership Program (PKM). The PKM was “Strengthening the Creative Power of Lansia Sejahera of RW 4 in Rungkut Menanggal, Gunung Anyar Surabaya District through Cultural Arts Activities”.
The community service activity empowers the elderly who have the potential to channel their cultural arts talent. The program with activities has carried out its first activity on Monday, July 8 in Balai RW 4, Kelurahan Rungkut Menanggal, Gunung Anyar District, Surabaya. There were Dr. Sri Wiryanti Budi Utami, Dra. M.Si., Head of the Program; Purbo Iswoyo, chairman of RW 4; Subroto, Head of Lansia Sejahtera; members of the Lansia Sejahtera; and tutors for each activity.
Dr. Sri Wiryanti Budi Utami, Dra. M.Si., a lecturer at Faculty of Humanities and Head of Community Partnership Program said cultural activities could be useful to support social-mental health and utilize creativity. By gathering, it will create a positive and happy atmosphere and help them to be independent.
“Gathering is expressing their potential, and they have potential,” said Sri.
“Hopefully, there will be more opportunity in next year. I want to enter the farmer group too. Because there are lots of jobs here, “he added.
There will be four activities in the program, including flower arrangement, painting, cooking, and vocal processing. The four activities are divided into two meetings. The first meeting on July 8 (flower arranging and painting) and the second meeting on July 10 (cooking and vocal).
The first meeting also presented tutors from Indonesian Association of Painters (IWPI), Sri Muhartini (Head of PKK Rungkut Menanggal Village) and Fitri (Galery Fitri Art owner) as a tutor for painting activities. Then, Maria Margaretha Hari church flower arrangement. She also has a diploma in European level basic flower arrangement.
On the other hand, Head of Lansia Sejahtera, Subroto expressed his gratitude to UNAIR for holding the event for Lansia Sejahtera. Subroto hopes the program can be useful for them.
“This is an excellent opportunity for them. They can do business. Thus they will not be a burden to the community or family, “he said.
“To stimulate enthusiasm, there will be competition in the future. For example, by celebrating independence day on August 17,” he added. (*)
