UNAIR NEWS – Student Activity Unit (UKM) Airlangga Debate Society (ADS) made achievements in the national arena again by winning two competition at once. The winners are in the first place in the debate competition and third place in the roleplay competition.
The team members consist of Auly Nahdyan Mafaza (FH 2017), Pamus Sukma Yudana (FH 2018), Tazkia Nanini (FH 2018). They were the only representative of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) at International Humanitarian Law Debate and Roleplay Competition.
The competition took place on 27-30 June 2019 at UPN Veteran East Java, Surabaya with the theme of “Bring Back the Confidence in the Changing Nature of Warfare”. After competing for three days, satisfying results were finally obtained by the team from UNAIR by winning two titles at once.
Participants who took part in the competition came from 12 Universities throughout Indonesia, and the rules for one campus is only sending one team. Tazkia Nanini, one of UNAIR representative team, said the preparation carried out was very limited because it coincided with Final Semester Examination (UAS). So for the practice, you have to divide your time by studying for UAS.
“We conduct training debates for three times and study material almost every day because in the debate, it requires a strong memory of the data. Besides, the firmness in conveying arguments must also be reliable and should not be frightened by the opposing arguments, “he added.
“I was shocked when we won two categorize of debate competition and roleplay competition. We lacked preparation during this competition,” he concluded.
He gave a message to other UNAIR students to always be confident and channel their interests and talents to positive things like competition. It will make you think critically and improve your abilities. “So make our alma mater proud!” he concluded.
For your information, UNAIR Debate UKM conducts exercises every weekend at 10.00-15.30 at Student Center building at Campus C UNAIR.
