KKN Back to Village, Waste is the Priority Issue on Maringkik Island

UNAIR NEWS – There are always several interesting things from Community Service (KKN) activities carried out by students every semester break. One of them is back to village Community Service Program at Maringkik Island. Precisely at Deda Island (Gili) Maringkik, Keruak District, East Lombok, NTB.  

There were at least twelve students participated in community service activity. Namely, Abima Rahmat A. F, Muhammad Alman Y, Adi Guna, Ayu M. N. P, Baiq Dwi H. A, Glazydia Juwita R, Kania Alawiyah, Putu Gea R. D. P, Wahyu Agung D, Ersalia Susetyo, Farah Kamalia, and Dicky Rahmawan. They started on Friday, June 27 until Tuesday, July 23.

Muhammad Alman Y or Alman explained the main focus of the activities that will be carried out is a waste problem. Health services will also be carried out in collaboration with Ksatria Airlanga Floating Hospital (RSTKA).

“There are several activities that we will carry out regarding waste problems. By making a small island waste database, waste management workshop and waste bank, “Alman explained.

In making the database and management of the waste, the service was planned to be carried out data collection, collection, selection, and analysis related to Maringkik residents’ household waste on the first week. With the number of households reaching 600 to 800 and the number of residents around 2500 people.

Particularly, the activities related to reliable waste database creation in the islands, and they received support from various parties. Among them were lecturers, trustworthy waste management researchers, and environmental technology researchers from environmental engineering study programs, environmental ecology researchers, anthropology researchers, women, and zero waste communities.

In addition, they will also create a health database for all Maringkik residents. The community service team will also decorate the dock, educational program with material related to the first action of disaster management, reading park, and so on.

“Another problem is related to the difficulty of water. The location is separated from the mainland, and it requires us to buy water during KKN, and we have to save money, “Alman said.

Alman hopes that activities during community service program can run smoothly. Thus, it can help solve the problems of the community in there either directly or indirectly, and they can contribute to better and dignified for UNAIR and Indonesia.

“In addition, we also hope to get valuable learning and experience in the university realm,” concluded Alman.
