UNAIR NEWS – Podcast is audio-based media that have recently become popular among the public. Ranging from ordinary people to content creators and famous youtuber. Raditya Dika also uses podcast as a media to create content.

Ilham Aksanu Ridlo S.KM., M.Kes, a lecturer at Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) also using podcast to share knowledge and experience that he had gained. Furthermore, the lecturer that familiarly called Ilham also invited his wife, Rizqy Amelia Zein, S.Psi., M.Sc. (Amel) who works as a lecturer at Faculty of Psychology UNAIR to become his work partner.

“In addition to channeling hobbies and desires to become content creators, our podcast is also an alternative learning media that has not been discussed in class,” said Ilham.

The title of the podcast chosen by Ilham and Amel is Sepulang Kuliah (After College). Based on the background of both those who work as lecturers and they record the audio after they finished their work.

On Sepulang Kuliah account, Ilham and Amel discussed scientific journals, open science, and their lives as young lecturers. Open science itself is a mental attitude of how academics be wiser in learning science.

The point is open science shares a space of openness on how science processes are formed. For example in research, namely how data can be transparently used, the results are open to public.

“The essence of open science is the use of science and where research data, lab notes and other research processes are freely available,” Ilham explained.

To add to the variety of podcast content, Ilham also had time to invite students and lecturers from other universities to collaborate. One of them is an episode related to the scientific publication index and he invited Dr. Dasapta Erwin Irawan from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). This colaboration became one the popular episode of Sepulang Kuliah podcast.

Sepulang Kuliah Podcast can be heard on anchor applications, apple podcast, google podcast, Spotify, and pocket podcast. So far, the listeners are from Indonesia, New Zealand, America, Australia to England. Ilham and Amel even made a twitter account to spread Podcast and communicate with the listener.

In making new episodes, there were several obstacles that they faced. Such as the difficulty of allocating time to record and edit the audio with their working hours as a lecturer. Besides, it is also related to self-consistency efforts in creating new content.

“Because when we want to share something, we have to understand the topic that what we want to share. In this case,  it will motivate me to learn and read more,” Ilham said.

Ilham hopes that in the future, he and his wife can continue to be consistent in making content. Hopefully, the enthusiasm in sharing knowledge will also be transmitted to students so they will share more with people.
