UNAIR NEWS – Ramadan is always a moment for Muslims to do good deeds because it is a month Allah SWT promised rewards and blessings for those who worship and do charity.

As a form of gratitude, all financial administration staff of Universitas Airlangga shared their happiness through social service activity on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. By cooperating with the faculties’ financial administration units throughout UNAIR, this social service was held in two places, Alang-Alang Center and Hargo Dedali Nursing Home.

The first location was Alang-Alang Center, a learning house for street children. It was established by TVRI journalists, Didit Hape, on Jalan Gunungsari number 24 Surabaya. The staff delegation donated clothes, school equipment, and cash.

After enjoying the musical performance from the street children as the closing ceremony, the delegation continued to the second location, Hargo Dedali Nursing Home. A nursing home located on Jalan Manyar Kartika IX No. 22-24 Surabaya was established in 1987 and was once a place for veteran widows, before being opened to general public.

Not only handing over donations, the delegation also interacted directly with the elderly, such as asking, telling stories, to reading a poem by one of the elderly residents, Itiek Meimoena Soepangkat. It got emotional when one of the elderly shared her reason why she was treated at Hargo Dedali.

Harlis Soelistyaningrum, one of the event coordinators, said that this activity was the first social service carried out by university’s financial administration in collaboration with financial administration units in faculties. Together with Hendra Dhanu, Harlis coordinated the financial administration social service activity.

“All of the financial administrators from faculties were expected to come with us, but because it was done during working hours, not all could attend. So only representatives from each faculty, ” she explained.

However, Harlis was grateful, her proposal for this activity received a good response from her colleagues in financial administration. Various assistance and donations were received until the day of social service. For this reason, Harlis hoped that this kind of activity can be done regularly in the future.

“Hopefully this activity is able to strengthen the relationship between members of the UNAIR financial administration group, make us concerned more with others in need and next year it can be done again,” she concluded. (*)
