UNAIR NEWS – Financial planning has been a challenge for the current millennial generation. Short and long term necessities may demand them to invest some of their income.

To overcome this financial problem, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Faculty of Psychology (FPsi) students held a financial planning seminar. The seminar on Financial Planning for Millennials was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

On that occasion, the speakers were CEO and Founder Finasialku.com Melvin Mumpuni and UNAIR Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) management lecturer Noorlaily Fitdiarini, SE., MBA. Financial problems often hit students and the seminar gave them insights on how to overcome them.

On that occasion Melvin explained that investment is easy to do by millennials who concern with their own finances. The easiest investment for students is through mutual funds which can provide a little practice and upgrading on their own finances.

“Many millennials aged 21 are still confused how to do long-term investment. One solution is to invest through savings or mutual funds to guarantee the future, “Melvin stated.

Noorlaily agreed that the millennial generation needs to learn financial investment. Noorlaily gave an example with her own growing business, a boutique business which is managed as a form of investment.

Noorlaily also advised the millennials to separate personal accounts with business accounts. Ir will make financial projections easier in the future.

“In investment, millennials must avoid expensive credit and must be smart in choosing low fixed costs,” she said.

“Designing emergency funds and prioritizing debt reduction can be a solution to start a business,” she added.

Meanwhile, the seminar’s chief executive Hirzan Syaharinda revealed that the event by Naranja.idea team was held to educate students to concern more about finances. The topic was chosen because there is a need for an alternative financial investment that guarantee better future.

“We held a financial seminar as an implementation of entrepreneurship psychology courses. This event is expected to provide other insights in managing student finances which are often irregular in their arrangement,” Hirzan explained. (*)
