UNAIR NEWS – Another good news comes from academics of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). Venri Novryantoro and Mohammad Wahyu Syafi’ul Mubarok, UNAIR students won the second and third place in an essay competition, Semarak Esai Nasional 2019, event held on Sunday, May 4, 2019 at Swadaya Gunung Jati University.

Venri, also known as Veven, said that the essay he wrote was about accurate estrus detection from cattle farms. He proposed a technology-based idea to monitor cow’s estrus to improve calf production.

Because so far, he continued, failure to detect estrus was one of the factors that could cause reproductive problems and low conceiving rates in up to fifty percent of dairy and beef cattle groups. Veven then tried to develop a technology named A Triple-Helix Systems of Tail Bracelet-chip Transponder (TRIPLE TRACT).

“TRIPLE TRACT is a technology that combines physical objects and digital technology that is synchronized by the Internet of Things and Operating System devices,” he said.

The pattern of flexibility in people’s production farms regularly affect the increasing population of beef cattle and dairy cows in Indonesia. So, the end of detection inaccuracy problem of estrus cattle is the realization of national self-sufficiency in meat, “added the 2016 veterinary education student.

As a FKH student and prospective veterinarian, Veven feels obliged to be involved in directing the nation’s future. He hoped that his invention will be able to be applied so Indonesia will no longer depend on imported beef or broodstock from other countries. Thanks to this brilliant idea, his essay won the second place.

“Actually being included in top 10 essay for presentations already made me happy, I would meet other students from various universities and gain new knowledge. Becoming a champion is a bonus from all my work, “Veven said.

Meanwhile, Wahyu’s essay was about the potential of room lights as a source of electrical energy to charge smartphone batteries using DSSC (Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell) or organic solar cells. The 2018 Faculty of Science and Technology Outstanding Student admitted that he did not expect that he would be nominated for the championship.

“Because I was initially included in waiting list, I was still working on the essay 3 hours before closing. Suddenly I was contacted by the committee, substituting a participant who resigned from the competition, “said Wahyu.

“Alhamdulillah, even from waiting list, I could still achieve the top three. Humans can only try, while the results are from God. So, keep trying until failure breaks our dreams, ” he said.

Not only as Bidikmisi scholarship recipients, Veven and Wahyu were also in Nusantara Jaya 2017 Expedition team. The two close friends are now reunited in the same competition and managed to make excellent achievement for their alma mater. (*)
