Mahagana UNAIR Sends Volunteers for Flood Disaster in Gresik

UNAIR NEWS – Disaster Response Student Team (Mahagana) Universitas Airlangga immediately went to Gresik. By bringing seven student personnel, Mahagana UNAIR helped the community at Cerme Village Hall, Cerme District, Gresik Regency on Sunday afternoon, 5 May.

Mahagana UNAIR representative, Anastasya Erika Pradani stated Kali Lamong River which had been affected by floods since six days ago. The affected houses located in 4 sub-districts in Gresik, namely Cerme, Benjeng, Balongpanggang and Menganti have been inundated by floods.

In addition, there was traffic jam and the floods hampered fish farming production. “Moreover, there were two embankment collapsed (Cerme, ed) on Friday.” explained Anastasya.

Together with Secretary of Disaster Volunteer (SRPB) and other volunteers in Gresik, Mahagana UNAIR gave packaged rice to Cerme Village residents.

“We shared the food by visiting to residents’ houses directly.” she said.

Although the flood has receded, Anatasya appealed to all the volunteer teams and local government to swiftly assist in handling the Gresik flood because there were many people who still need help, both in logistics and labor.

“Because we have to work together as a team. Therefore, we hope that all volunteers and the government will continue to assist the flood until the families can go back to their house.” she said.

“And, our plan (Mahagana, ed) will help until Monday afternoon.” she added.

In addition, D3 Nursing Study Program Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR and UNAIR alumni in Gresik association conducted flood management activities on Monday afternoon May 6 at Cerme region, Gresik. (*)
