Beside Scientific Papers, UNAIR Encourages Lecturers to Write Books

UNAIR NEWS – To provide insight and knowledge to lecturers of Universitas Airlangga, Center for Learning Innovation and Certification (PIPS) held a Workshop on Preparation and Development of Teaching Materials in Millennial Era on Wednesday, March 20. The activity was held in Kahuripan Room, Management Office, Campus C UNAIR.

The lecturers in the UNAIR environment are expected to write books beside writing in journals. It is useful to promote Universitas Airlangga to the public.

As a speaker, Prof. Dr. Bunyamin Maftuh, M.Pd., M.A., as the Director of the Career and Human Resources Competence of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education conveyed the importance of appropriate textbooks with the curriculum in the process of learning. “Inviting students to think at the highest level (Higher Order Thinking ) can be done through textbooks that fit the curriculum,” he said.

In the discussion of Prof. Dr. Bunyamin, outlined cognitive levels ranging from lower order thinking to higher thinking order. The levels are Knowing / Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, to the highest is Creating.

Prof. Bunyamin also revealed that, the delivery of lesson during lectures should also pay attention to two-way dialogue. Lecturers must also be able to encourage and motivate students to read independently.

Each textbook has its own characteristics in accordance with the course. Although the emphasis on each textbook is different, there are three aspects that must be included in all textbooks, Attitude and Value, Knowledge, and Skills.

“Furthermore, communicative writing style must also be compatible with students in this millennial era,” he added.

He also conveyed the importance of communicating the lesson according to the characteristics of students. “The discussion for first semester students is certainly different from fourth semester students,” he explained.

The workshop was attended by UNAIR lecturers and several lecturers from other universities. At the end of the meeting, all participants were required to be able to write book correctly and well. As one of the series of PIPS agendas this year, the activity was one of UNAIR’s strategies towards World Class University. (*)
