UNAIR NEWS – In order to fulfill one of the requirements to obtain ASIC accreditation with international standards, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga held a simulation of how to cope with disasters. The activity was held on Wednesday February 27 in Adi Sukadana Room and FISIP UNAIR Park.

ASIC accreditation (Accreditation for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities) is an independent international education assessment institution based in UK. This year, FISIP UNAIR will carry out ASIC accreditation process on March 25-29, 2019.

Dr. Tuti Budi Rahayu, Dra., M.Sc., as Vice Dean II of FISIP UNAIR said that the simulation was actually not only for visitation or accreditation but it should be carried out periodically. However, Dr. Tuti explained that the activity was the first step to be carried out periodically within a few months or every year.

“Because there will be new students, it must be done periodically,” he explained.

Dr. Tuti added, the activity was faculty program. Which, FISIP will evaluate 13 study programs in FISIP. The programs consisted of seven undergraduate study programs, five master study programs, and one doctoral study program.

Followed by FISIP academics, the simulation activity focused on fire disaster. Occupational health and safety (K3) is more emphasized in this simulation because it is related to a lot of people’s life. As for natural disaster simulation, FISIP still collaborated with UNAIR K3 to introduce the simulation for all of academics.

“In addition to K3, there is also environmental health, learning processes, infrastructure, and also for disability,” he added.

Dr. Tuti continued, FISIP are trying to facilitate disabled students well. Currently, FISIP is working on building elevators in buildings B and C. In addition, there are also special lanes for disabled students, especially for students who are not able to use stairs.

ASIC accreditation is one way to improve the quality of learning and case related to the quality of its faculty. FISIP, which has received several national accreditations was asked by the Rector of Universitas Airlangga through the Vice Rector I in improving the quality by conducting international accreditation.

“Hopefully, our services will be better for students and society in general. So once again improving quality is the main thing for the development of organizations, institutions, and faculties, “he concluded.
