Rector: Heroes’ Day Commemoration Must Not Just Be Ceremonial Day

UNAIR NEWS – November 10 Heroes’ Day Commemoration Ceremony was held again by Universitas Airlangga in 2018 on Saturday, November 10. For UNAIR, that date does not only mean nationalism that brings reflection to all nations to emulate the heroes of their predecessors.

However, that date is also very historic for UNAIR. As 64 years ago, on November 10, UNAIR was officially born as the third Indonesian university after the Indonesian State University and Gadjah Mada State University. Inaugurated directly by the Minister of Education at that time Prof. Muhammad Yamin.

During the commemoration ceremony, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA, reminded these historical values. November 10 events that occurred in the past must be a reflection of all the people of Indonesia, by taking the spirits of heroic values ​​ to be implemented at present contexts.

“Remembering should not be only remembering. But we must be able to take lessons from that history, “he said.

According to Prof. Nasih, historical values ​​are very important to be used as the power to do good things, especially in a joint effort to build and develop Indonesia.

“Without it (historical values, ed), remembering and learning it, we cannot build the power to do something,” he added.

On that occasion, Prof. Nasih expressed his appreciation to all UNAIR academics who attended the commemoration ceremony. According to him, although trivial, it shows that the appreciation of the heroes is still nurtured and maintained. In view of the socio-cultural progress of the people who are currently experiencing changes.

“I really appreciate all participants who come to this ceremony today,” he said.

On the other hand, Prof. Nasih also reminded UNAIR academics on the importance of spirit of togetherness in advancing the university. It was part of the heroic mandate of the predecessors to continue the struggle for Indonesia advancement.

On that same day, a series of UNAIR 64th anniversary celebrations were also held. Heroes’ Day commemoration ceremony in front of the UNAIR Management Office, Campus C, opened the agenda for the day. The activity continued with a university assembly at the Garuda Mukti Hall, 5th Floor, UNAIR Management Office, Campus C.

In the assembly there were a number of prominent Indonesian public figures such as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Hatta Ali, S.H, M.H and Head of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman. The last agenda was the feast for 64th Anniversary of UNAIR on the 1st floor, UNAIR Management Office. In the event, awards were given to UNAIR academic community with outstanding achievements. (*)
