UNAIR NEWS – Disaster Response Student Team (Mahagana) Universitas Airlangga  immediately gave trauma healing to victims of Palu disaster on Saturday, October 21. Previously, the team officially departed by UNAIR Rector Prof. Muh. Nasih on Friday afternoon, October 19 and arrived at Mutiara Airport SIS Al-Jufrie Palu at 7:10 p.m.

The team gave trauma healing to refugees, especially children, in Batusuya Village Square, Sindue, Donggala. As planned, the team will join BPBD (Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency) East Java. In addition to focusing on trauma healing, the team planned to support the activities of handling refugees with BPBD East Java’s public kitchen and logistics team.

Head of UNAIR Mahagana team, Tirta Muhammad Rizki, informed that the focus of their assistance team was in the area of ​​ evacuation post in Sindue sub-district Donggala, at Batusuya Village Command Post, Sindue Tambu Sabora Sub-district, Donggala Regency. To get there, it takes more than 2 hours to travel from Palu City.

“It took longer indeed, because as reported on television, access to villages, at the posts, is in a damaged condition. In some parts of the road, there were landslides, “he said.

“The team will be divided into three divisions, trauma healing team, public kitchen team, and logistics team, “he added.

Tirta revealed, about the division of the team, all would be adjusted to the background of the member organization because a team of 15 personnel consists of Student Activity Unit (UKM) members, from Student Executive Board (BEM); Student Regiment (Menwa); Scout; PMI Voluntary Corps (KSR); and Wanala UNAIR.

Regarding the trauma healing program, continued Tirta, a number of children in evacuation were invited to play and color pictures. They were asked to color super hero characters and animated characters. The goal is to distract the children from the disaster that previously struck.

“They seem to be enjoying it,” said Tirta.

Meanwhile, Wati, one of the villagers from Batusuya and a refugee there admitted that she was very happy with the trauma healing program. That way, children become entertained and relieved from the trauma of the disaster.

“The children here are very happy if there is something like this ( trauma healing program , ed). Even better, if you tell stories to them, “he said. (*)
