UNAIR NEWS – As one of the leading departments in Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), the Engineering Department seeks to enrich innovation through various researches. The department in charge of the Information Systems (SI); Instrumentation System Automation (OSI); and Library Three year vocational (D3) Study Program is currently focusing on producing patents and intellectual property rights.

As stated by the Head of Engineering Department, FV UNAIR Drs. Eto Wuryanto, DEA on Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2021. He said that research collaborations with the world of work and industry will continue to be encouraged to produce more patents and intellectual property rights (HAKI).

“We are heading to HAKI and Patents. Actually it has already started. Some time ago from OSI D3 program there were three patents, but they were still with the FST (Faculty of Science and Technology, ed) because at that time the parent company was FST, “he said.

According to Eto, the Engineering Department has enormous potential to create some innovative products for society. Most of the lecturers in the Department of Engineering, FV UNAIR, have certificates of competence and are members of professional and expertise associations in line with the study programs.

On the other hand, the Engineering Department also excels in some other aspects. For example, case study-based learning methods or work skills projects according to applied expertise. The curriculum used also refers to the KKNI level 5 standards according to the National Higher Education Standards.

“We have lecturers who are actually superior. However, because they are still new, we have not seen their excellence. Therefore, we encourage lecturers to pursue doctoral degree to be better in the future, “said Eto.

Furthermore, Instrumentation System Automation and Library Three year vocational (D3) have been accredited A, while D3 Information Systems is accredited B. In learning and development activities, the Engineering Department of FV UNAIR also involves various practitioners and industries.

“The graduate job acceptance of this Library three year vocational (D3) is the highest. Many graduates from the Engineering Department also have careers in bona fide national to multinational companies, “he added.

This achievement, continued Eto, was inseparable from the efforts of the Engineering Department to boost the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Department of Engineering FV UNAIR also plans to open an applied master’s program.

However, to produce patents and intellectual property rights, the Engineering Department still needs to improve collaboration because industrial cooperation is still limited to field works or internships.

“We are currently working on collaboration for research and community service. We also hope that we can provide applicable knowledge to students from teaching staff who are vocational graduates, “he hoped.

UNAIR as one of the best universities in Indonesia encourages the entire academic community to increase product downstream process as part of the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program. (*)
