FPK improves graduate quality with Independent Campus Competency Program

UNAIR NEWS – Two Universitas Airlangga undergraduate study programs, History in the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) and Aquaculture in Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) have been selected for the Independent Campus Competition Program (PK-KM) which is an open competition by the Ministry Education and Culture Directorate General of Higher Education with a group selection system (tiered system). Contacted by UNAIR News on Saturday, May 1, 2021, the head of Aquaculture study program Desi Putri Wulan Sari S.Pi., M.Si., said that the draft Freedom of Learning by Aquaculture will target students and faculty-based interprofessional education creative and innovative education models. 

The PK-KM program is expected to change the mindset, that learning techniques can be carried out interprofessionally outside campus. “The learning and curriculum can be adaptive so that it can produce skilled students in the management of aquaculture sector, who are ready to use and compete in professional world,” she said.

Through the PK-KM program, aquaculture students have the opportunity to improve their experience outside of college through two options. Learning directly in the field with the aim of increasing hands on experience through the Field Education Program (FEP) and increasing entrepreneurial spirit in the field of fisheries through the Fisheries Entrepreneur Education Program (FE2P). Students will receive operational assistance grants for 4 months, a learning experience worth 20 credits. 

Therefore, FPK has invited many partners as places for students to carry out PK-KM activities. Partners from FEP are Tambak Mitra PT Surya Windu Kartika, Tambak DPA UNAIR, UD. Benih Unggul Situbondo, and Tuban Boncong Marine Cultivation Installation (IBL). Then the partners from FE2P are one of the alumni of FPK UNAIR engaged in contest betta fish business, Giovani Alif, PT. Nagrofa Akuakultura, BPBRIN UNAIR, UD Benih Unggul Situbondo, the East Java Chamber of Commerce, HIPMI and the Indonesian Shrimp Club.

“That’s where the excellence of the study program from, it has had many collaborations with partners who support the MBKM program. The program proposed for this grant really characterizes the character of the study program, which is improving the ability of students to adapt and work in the field, strengthening the spirit and ability of entrepreneurs, openness of insights, and disseminating research results from students and lecturers to the public, ” she said.

Aquaculture Study Program is currently re-verifying the results of the visitation from the Ministry of Education and Culture. The next step is to prepare internally and externally for the MBKM program to take place.

“I hope the program is welcomed by the academic community, because actually this MBKM is a program that brings benefits to many students,” concluded Desi. (*)
