UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga and Clarivate Analytics will soon collaborate in the research field. The collaboration is called Publons Academy, A Collaborative Training Academy for Researchers. On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPPJHKI) Universitas Airlangga held a briefing regarding this collaboration.
Prof. H. Hery Purnobasuki, Drs., M.Si., Ph.D., as Head of LIPPJHKI said that the cooperation program is in the form of mentoring activity with world-class journals reviewers. In other words, Publons Academy will connect researchers with world-class mentors. “This collaboration is for increasing the skills and capacity of our researchers. Besides, it is also about their works’ readability at global level, especially in terms of publication,” he said.
According to Prof. Hery, there are many outstanding researchers at Universitas Airlangga. The number of Universitas Airlangga’s publications every year is very high. On average there are more than 2,000 publications per year.
However, the readability of these publications is still quite low. So, continued Prof. Hery, the citation needed to be improved. “We need to learn the legibility aspect not only at the national level, but also at global level. So researchers can identify what is trending and what will be studied, “added Prof. Hery.
Publons Academy is one of the efforts to improve Universitas Airlangga’s international performance. It cannot be separated from UNAIR’s target to reach Top 300 world class university. “If our researchers are reliable, its impact for the university will be extraordinary,” said the Biology lecturer at Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).
Prof. Hery said that the program will be implemented in January. The entire training series is conducted online.
A total of 100 researchers from all faculties at Universitas Airlangga have been selected to join the program. Participants will undergo a training period for 3 to 4 months. In fact, he said, each researcher could involve at least 5 students from doctoral or postgraduate program as companions in the course.
Meanwhile, Publons Academy participants will get a certificate upon completion. Prof. Hery hoped that the knowledge gained by the participants from the program can be shared with fellow researchers at the faculty. “We wish all researchers at UNAIR to join, but it won’t be effective. So we first sorted 100 researchers from all faculties with high h-index at Scopus. Then there will be a new session for other researchers, “he concluded. (*)
