UNAIR NEWS – International Leader Model United Nations (ILMUN) is one of the prestigious international events. Held in Thailand from January 30 to February 2, 2019, this event left participants with special impression, including Ni Made Krisantina Shandra, a student from Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) Universitas Airlangga.
The 2015 student also shared stories and impressions to UNAIR NEWS. Made said, at first she accidentally got information about this event from the Internet. After searching for more information, she decided to register.
“So, initially we were asked to fill out a form about personal data and wrote a motivation letter. I was really interested in the concept of this event, so I never had a doubt to register, ” Made said.
According to Made, what makes it interesting is the concept where participants could feel the atmosphere of UN session. Moreover, participants also had the opportunity to meet the representatives from various countries.
“I was placed at IMF (International Monetary Fund, ed) council so the case I got was a problem concerning the economic field. I became the delegate from Finland, ” she continued.
Even though language has been an obstacle, ILMUN 2019 participants can still communicate and follow the program well. The participants exchanged stories related to experiences in their respective countries.
“Not only can we feel the atmosphere at UN, we can also get many new friends from various countries. There are many interesting stories from other participants about how their country is, its culture, and other things, “Made said.
Made continued, there was Culture Night as the closing ceremony. There participants were asked to present the culture of their respective countries. She gained a lot of insight about other countries’ cultures.
Not only sharing her stories, Made also invited other UNAIR students to take part in ILMUN program. According to her, this event brings many benefits, especially in terms of communicating in English and expanding connections.
“The most important thing is we have to be confident, especially when writing a motivation letter. Just say that the reason we join this event is to gain experience and extend relations, ” she advised. (*)
