Rector Accepts Directly 4 Outstanding Students

UNAIR NEWS – There was an unusual scene during Airlangga Education Expo (AEE) event during the first day on Friday, February 15 2019. In Universitas Airlangga education exhibition which open to all of high school students, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih stated four students accepted as student in Universitas Airlangga.

Furthermore, the four students were ‘chosen’ as outstanding students who has brilliant achievements, both in terms of leadership and academic competition. The four students who were declared were those majoring in Islamic Economics, Public Health, Japanese Literature, and Information Systems.

One of the four lucky students was Ermawati, a student from SMA Muhammadiyah 1. She was second-place winner in international research about air conditioner (AC) from coconut fibers.

“This is environmentally friendly technology, from conventional AC, we change it through coconut fiber. ” said Ermawati.

Another student who is not less fortunate was Marissa from SMA Muhammadiyah 10 GKB Gresik. Marissa’s achievements are in terms of leadership. Specifically, she served as president of student council.

“Initially, I was nervous. I choosed public health at UNAIR Banyuwangi. (AEE, ed) This is a really spectacular event, “she said to UNAIR NEWS.

Regarding student acceptance, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih said that the four students were students who had enrolled in UNAIR by SNMPTN.

“Those who have special skills, we will record and process it.”We intended to explore prospective students who have special achievements,” said Rector.

During interview, Rector stated that even though UNAIR considered special factors for prospective students, academic aspects still as the main consideration. For example, prospective hafiz student or Quran memorizer.

Regarding to AEE, which is UNAIR’s annual agenda, Prof. Nasih said that this expo was to help prospective students in choosing university majors. Moreover, booth of 14 faculties was displayed in UNAIR along with units, agencies and institutions. As well, there was a consultation session to choose prospective student major given by UNAIR psychologists.

“We want (AEE) to be carried out in advance before SNMPTN-SBMPTN registration, so it will help prospective student” he explained. (*)
