UNAIR NEWS – Representatives of the French Embassy in Jakarta visited Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. The visit was meant to strengthen the collaboration between UNAIR and France.
Mr. Thierry Goubier as the Attaché of Science and Technology, French Embassy in Jakarta was accompanied by Mrs. Sandra Vivier as Director of IFI Surabaya and Mrs. Indri Novitasari as Campus France Manager in Surabaya.
dr. Muhammad Miftahussurur, M.Kes., Sp. PD-KGEH., Ph.D. representing the Rector of UNAIR, expressed his gratitude to the delegates from France. During the visit, they discussed the potential collaboration between UNAIR and France.
“UNAIR has been working with institutions in France since 2011. We will continue to develop this partnership from time to time,” he said.
The Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization, and Information hopes that in the future, the amount of cooperation between UNAIR and France can continue to grow significantly. UNAIR is committed to innovation and continuous collaboration.
“We will continue to expand our networking activities with overseas universities around the world. The collaboration between UNAIR and France is very strategic,” he concluded.
Mr. Thierry then gave a presentation on research activities in France and the potential for academic collaboration and program mobility for masters and doctoral levels. The Science and Technology Attache, French Embassy in Jakarta expressed his gratitude for being welcomed at UNAIR.
So far, France has done a lot of cooperation with Indonesia. Among them are 30 double degree programs, more than 300 joint scientific projects between France and Indonesia, and more than 3500 active French researchers in Indonesia.
“In the Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC) Nusantara program, there are at least 11 thematic fields,” he stated.
Among the 11 fields are food technology, energy, health and medicine, marine sciences, transportation technology, information technology, social sciences and humanities, advanced materials, climate and environmental change, risk and natural disaster management, and post-Covid-19 solutions. As for non-thematic, PHC Nusantara has three fields, namely nuclear, military, and defense.
Furthermore, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si conveyed that the field of French research with the field of UNAIR research is very close. According to her, UNAIR’s research is very strong in medical science.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, UNAIR continues to strive to help conduct research so that Indonesia can be free from the pandemics,” she said.
UNAIR continues to strive to advance innovations to have a greater impact on society. UNAIR also assists in achieving Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Specifically, UNAIR focuses on six research field topics. Among them are the blue economy, green economy, health, digital economy, food security, tourism, and conservation.
After the discussion, the delegates visited some labs at UNAIR, such as Stem Cell Laboratory, Whole Genome Sequencing Laboratory, and Animal BSL Laboratory 3. Moreover, the French delegates also held a dialogue with the UNAIR Red and White Vaccine team. (*)
