UNAIR NEWS – Dr. Desianto Budi Utomo, Ph. D., the head of Satria Airlangga Veterinarian (SAGAVET) Universitas Airlangga Alumni Association (IKA-UA) Commissariat of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), was present in the series of 50th FKH UNAIR Anniversary Talk show events. The talk show entitled “FKH UNAIR from Time to Time” was held in the Tandjung Adiwinata room of FKH UNAIR on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

In his speech, Drh. Desianto said that 50 years of FKH UNAIR is the golden age of lifespan. Behind the achievements of FKH UNAIR, there are still challenges to be faced.

“FKH UNAIR, as one of the best faculties in Indonesia, has produced thousands of veterinarians. There are approximately 15,000 veterinarians. Unfortunately, data related to the distribution of alumni are still not well recorded. Therefore, currently the SAGAVET management is designing big data to accommodate alumni,” said Drh. Desianto.

Like COVID-19, he continued, we also need to track, trace, and treat alumni data both within the country and abroad. A good alumni database will provide optimal benefits for FKH UNAIR.

“Some FKH UNAIR alumni are also very active abroad. We need to cooperate with them to spread the benefits in Indonesia. Therefore, the role of alumni can also be felt by the state,” said Drh. Desianto.

In addition, he continued, another challenge that has to be faced by FKH UNAIR is the issue of branding. Dr. Desianto said that branding needs to be done as a marketing effort. FKH UNAIR and its alumni must be known at national and international levels.

“We observed that there must be pride that needs to be increased towards the alma mater, and this has not been fully programmed. Therefore, currently, SAGAVET presents the Alumni Teaching (Alumni Mengajar) program. Hopefully, this program can increase emotional bonding among our faculty, soon-to-be alumni, and alumni of FKH UNAIR,” said Drh. Desianto.

To support this program, SAGAVET has established the “Yayasan SAVAGET Hebat Indonesia, ” a foundation forum to accommodate aspirations and information, especially in terms of supporting the veterinary profession in Indonesia.

“Moving forward, one step ahead. Every year we will hold an event to support better alumni downstreaming,” he concluded. (*)
