UNAIR NEWS – Another great news came from the Red Campus. The Overall Champion title for the legal contest of Diponegoro Law Fair (DLF) 2021 was won by the Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga (FH UNAIR) delegation team. Organized by Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), the Prof. Satjipto Rahardjo Trophy was successfully won by the UNAIR team. The members were from the Airlangga Young Jurist Community (MYMA) and the Business Study Forum (FSB). FH UNAIR became the Overall Champion after winning two competitions, 1st place for legal debate and 3rd place for scientific writing. To get the story, the editorial team interviewed the leaders of each team on Wednesday, November 4, 2021.

Members of the debate delegation consisted of Ridho Budaya Septarianto (2019), Harven Filippo Taufik (2019), and Angeline Regita Nathalia (2020) as speakers and Azmil Muftakhor (2019), Aditya Nur Rizki Putra (2020), and Melva Emely Laurentius (2020) as researchers. The scientific writing delegation consisted of Dean Rizqullah Risdaryanto (2019), Nenes Renata (2019), Amira Fadia Taquela (2019), and Aji Setyo Mukti (2019).

As the debate team leader, Angeline explained that the participants had to prepare eleven debate motions. The motion was based on the big theme of the competition, “Law, Culture, and Society across the Ages.” The Class of 2020 student mentioned that there were two memorable motions. The first motion was related to the establishment of land banking as an alternative to providing land for the public interest. According to her, it was the most difficult motion for the opposition side because of the unequal arguments. She added that the team felt blank when they got the motion as an opposition team.

“The second was about the position of the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) as a state institution within the scope of executive power, and we got the motion in the final stage as an opposition team. This preparation for DLF was a bit challenging because we only had about a month to prepare eleven motions, and it was amid midterm examinations and other committee activities,” she said.

Dean, the leader of the scientific writing team, said that the title of the article they submitted was “Legal Protection for Personal Data of Users of Financial Technology Peer-to-Peer (Fintech P2P) Lending Unregistered in Indonesia.” The Class of 2019 student said that there is an overlapping authority in the context of personal data protection for fintech P2P unregistered in Indonesia. It is certainly not following the OECD Privacy Guidelines. Thus, the idea of the scientific paper emerged from that problem.

“Therefore, in this paper, we provide suggestions and recommendations to add content to the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP). They are related to the existence of an independent authority for personal data protection to carry out supervision, resolve personal data disputes, and restore personal data by applying the right to be forgotten concept,” he explained.

Angeline and Dean both highly appreciated the achievement of this overall champion. Considering the difference between UNAIR and UNDIP schools of law, Angeline said that this achievement made her even more proud. DLF 2021 was held on October 29 – 31, 2021, online.
