UNAIR NEWS – Recently, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) has officially published its world ranking based on assessments in the field of science or by subject. Six fields of science from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have succeeded in being included in the prestigious ranking. Among them are Law (ranked #201+), Business & Economics (ranked #601+), Social Sciences (ranked #601+), Clinical & Health (ranked #601+), Life Sciences (ranked #801+), and Physical Sciences (ranked #801-1000).

“This is the first year for UNAIR to be included in THE WUR. As a newcomer, this achievement is certainly an excellent start and it motivates UNAIR to improve its quality to become a World Class University,” said Dian Ekowati, P.hD., as Head of UNAIR’s Planning and Development Board (BPP).

Overall, Dian said that there were about 153 UNAIR study programs included in THE WUR assessment. Moreover, in the field of Law, UNAIR is the only university in Indonesia included in the ranking.

This achievement, according to Dian, is the result of the hard work from various parties at UNAIR. Intensification of international strategies through collaboration with global academic partners and international researchers through various Tri Dharma activities, such as collaboration in research and publications, teaching processes by inviting international lecturers, and international community service under WUACD, were considered significant contributions to the achievements of THE WUR.

Assessment Indicators

Asked about THE WUR’s assessment, Dian said that there are five main indicators to each subjectThey are Teaching, Research, Citation, Industry Income, and International Outlook. These indicators are then further divided into 13 small indicators involving variables such as the ratio of students and lecturers, the ratio of doctorate and undergraduate graduates, the proportion of international students, the number of scientific publications, and the amount of institutional income.

“In the future, UNAIR will continue to improve its performance in each of these indicators as part of improving the quality of Tri Dharma. In addition, cooperation with industry, business and the professional world will also be intensified and expected have an impact on improving the industry, but also on the income industry of universities and members,” she said.
