UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga Rector, Prof Moh Nasih, inaugurated new professors this October. On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, Rector inaugurated three professors at the Garuda Mukti Hall, UNAIR Management Office.

The three inaugurated professors were Prof. Dr. Ira Widjiastuti, drg., MKes., SpKG(K) from the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mustofa Helmi Effendi, drh., DTAPH. from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Prof. apt. Esti Hendradi, MSi, PhD. from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

On that occasion, Prof. Nasih revealed that a professorship indicated many things. The main thing is the process of community service for the professors, which must be improved.

“Don’t just stop at the professorship. The position of a professor is actually the beginning of a professional service. The freedom of the academic scene is in the hands of the professors. This is the initial task that must be started, not ended with this inauguration,” said the Rector.

In the inauguration ceremony, the three professors gave scientific orations related to the progress of their research. Prof Ira’s oration was on ‘Potential of Combination of Calcium Hydroxide-Propolis as a Vital Pulp Treatment Medicament.’ Prof. Helmi delivered an oration about the importance of public awareness on the potential transmission of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) originating from animals and animal products. Furthermore, Prof. Esti delivered a scientific oration entitled ‘Development of Nanotechnology in Transdermal Drug Delivery System.’

Regarding the oration of the three professors, Prof. Nasih said that they made us realize how important academic life, research, and scientific publications are to improve the quality of human life.

“Without research and publications, science will not develop. Because the journey of our lives goes beyond the development of knowledge carried out by intellectuals and educated people,” said the Rector.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR professor also encouraged the professors to continuously provide the best teaching to students based on their experiences and research publications. “Don’t just be a ‘postman’ who conveys knowledge only from other scientists to our students. This is the start of a more challenging journey later on,” he said. (*)
