UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Promotion and Community Empowerment of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia has been holding a workshop on the planning of interpersonal communication (KAP) regulations. The workshop will be held for three days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (September 21-24, 2021).

The workshop is a series of activities in regard to “Strengthening the National Health System (SKN) through the Implementation of KAP and Behavior Change for Stunting Prevention in 2021 in 11 Regencies or Cities in East Java.” The 11 regions consist of Blitar, Lumajang, Magetan, Ngawi, Madiun, Jombang, Bojonegoro, Pasuruan, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Malang.

Trias Mahmudiono, S.KM., MPH., GCAS., Ph.D. said, the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data in 2018 showed that the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was still at 30.8 percent. Meanwhile, the President of Indonesia has targeted the stunting rate in 2025 to only be 14 percent. Therefore, he added, it is necessary to accelerate collective efforts to achieve the target.

“At the national level, there may be guidelines, but it is still all of us who are at the forefront. The role of each cross-sector including non-governmental groups is also very necessary to overcome this stunting,” said the Vice Dean III of FKM.

On the first day of the workshop, there was a presentation from the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of East Java regarding the importance of KAP regulations as a form of the second pillar implementation. In addition, there was an explanation from the East Java Health Office (Dinkes) regarding the importance of KAP in supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction in East Java. Finally, the material on the regulation planning was presented by Dr. Lilik Pudjiastuti, S.H. M.H.

The output from a series of the workshop activities is a regulatory document which is then formulated into a communication strategy document. At the end of the workshop, there will also be an orientation to strengthen KAP for health workers and cadres. The East Java Health Office hoped that the upcoming regulations could facilitate the work of all parties involved in handling stunting.

“Hopefully this meeting will be very useful and can create a healthy generation towards the golden generation of Indonesia,” concluded drg. Vitria Dewi, M.Si. as Head of Public Health in the East Java Health Office. (*)
