UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has inaugurated 1381 new students for Doctoral, Master’s, Specialist, and Professional Programs for the odd semester 2021/2022 Academic Year. The inauguration was carried out online and offline with several new student representatives at the Garuda Mukti Hall Campus C on Monday, September 6, 2021.

On that occasion, UNAIR Rector, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., congratulated the newly inaugurated students. New students are expected to apply the value of excellence with morality, followed by HEBAT (an acronym meaning “great”) attitudes: Humble, Excellent, Brave, Agile, and Transcendent.

“Currently, you are in the hotbed of intellectuality, to grow under the guidance and direction of the lecturers as well as the support of the administrative staff we have to develop science,” he said.

According to him, not everyone has the same opportunity to learn and be a part of Universitas Airlangga. The Rector invited the students to take advantage of this golden opportunity by developing knowledge and professionalism for the benefit of mankind.

“Being part of UNAIR is a very extraordinary gift. Automatically, you are also part of a world-class campus community. Please note that this time UNAIR is ranked 465th in the world according to the QS World University Ranking,” he stated.

The Rector was optimistic and hoped that the presence of the new students would strengthen the position of Universitas Airlangga in the following ranking up to the Top 300 in the world. It is not easy to achieve, and it reflects sincerity, determination, and the best efforts for the homeland, nation, and country.

“In several other achievements, we know that UNAIR’s Academic Reputation is ranked 310th, 40 points higher than the previous year. Meanwhile, the Employer Reputation is at 176th, which means a 96 point improvement compared to the previous year. Together, with all of you, we should strengthen these two indicators,” he said.

In the end, Prof. Nasih explained that studies at the postgraduate level have a different focus from undergraduate studies. In the undergraduate programs, students are required to master core abilities in various professions. However, when they become doctoral, master’s, specialist, and professional programs’ students, they are required to develop the knowledge obtained at the undergraduate level.

“Creativity and encouragement to innovate and conduct research are the main obligations. In the postgraduate program, research becomes the main point or credit in the learning process. So, all lectures and pre-thesis courses will be directed to support your thesis,” he explained.

Before closing his remarks, the Rector greeted several students from various regions such as Manado, Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Papua, and even Yemen.
