UNAIR NEWS – As one of the countries with the best education in the world, Australia has become a destination for Indonesians to continue their education. Many world’s top universities and adequate education facilities are some of the reasons for the great interest of the Indonesian people to pursue education in Australia.

In this regard, the Australian government offers various scholarships for Indonesians who want to continue their studies at the postgraduate level. One of them is the Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS), a scholarship program from the Australian government that offers the opportunity to study at a prestigious university in Australia.

“This Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS) is a prestigious international scholarship that offers an opportunity to continue the study, research, and professional development in Australia,” explained Nanda Agastya Wardana, one of the AAS awardees on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Nanda continued that AAS Scholarship offers total funding for those declared to pass the selection to study at Australian campuses.

“In addition to tuition funding, the facility provided by AAS includes visa and airplane fees for the awardee. Before departing to Australia, awardees are given preparation for 7-9 weeks,” continued the student who took the Master of Counselling study at Monash University.

In Indonesia, Nanda proceeded, AAS offered three types of scholarships. Students can choose one of the programs provided, such as postgraduate courses (master’s and Ph.D. level), short-term courses program according to their field, and Split-Site Master Program (SSMP), where students have the opportunity to study both in Australia or in Indonesia.

The preparation includes IELTS or TOEFL IBT test score, recommendation letter, curriculum vitae, self essay, and other requirements.

“For the length of preparation, in my opinion, each person is different. However, having plenty of time to prepare will be better,” Nanda stated. She revealed that six months are needed for her to prepare for AAS selection.

Nanda also revealed that once declared accepted, the awardee will be asked to sign a contract stating that after completing their studies, they must leave the country for a minimum of two years.

“So, if, for example, I finished study in 2021, it means I will not be allowed to enter Australia before 2023,” she explained. (*)
