UNAIR NEWS – The Freedom of Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI) has commenced for a year. In MBKM, students are given the opportunity to sharpen their abilities according to their talents and interests directly in the professional world as preparation for their future careers. UNAIR is one of the universities that want to focus on this program in its faculties, including the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR.
To explore the implementation of MBKM in FEB UNAIR, the editorial team decided to interview the Dean of FEB UNAIR, Prof. Dian Agustia, SE., M.Si., Ak., on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. She said that FEB UNAIR is ready to facilitate students participating in eight MBKM programs. In general, the supports include lecturer assistance and credit conversion.
“For example, if students do well-structured internships, we will provide two mentors. One is from FEB lecturers, and the other is from the internship program provider. This assistance is provided so that the effectiveness of the internship can be ascertained,” said the Accounting Expert.
Prof. Dian said that UNAIR, especially FEB, has implemented MBKM. A common example is international student exchanges. However, MBKM and the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program can intensify the number of outbound students. Prof. Dian also mentioned the role of the study center, which can be useful in increasing student talents in research and writing. In the study center, students can help lecturers in research and submit papers to international journals.
“For community services, we have partnered with the Infaq Management Institute. Lecturers have also helped provide knowledge to students who will work for the community. We have also collaborated with Bank Indonesia where students can do internships for several months and access data for research purposes. Later, the internship period can be converted into 20 credits,” said the dean.
In order to amplify the news regarding MBKM, the Dean of FEB works closely with student institutions such as the Student Executive Board (BEM) and the Student Association (HIMA). Therefore, the inputs and outputs of the Freedom of Learning Independent Campus programs can be understood by the FEB UNAIR community. Prof. Dian also explained about the broadcast program called “Bincang Santai” (Casual Talk Show), which was initiated by FEB UNAIR.
“The content of the Bincang Santai is the same as dissemination of student programs, including MBKM. However, we are more focused on the implementation of the program. For example, we ask the IISMA awardees about their experiences, tips and tricks, and how to convert their studies into credits,” she concluded.
