UNAIR NEWS- The 2021 Chicken and Egg Day Festival Series (FHAT) held by the Poultry and Bird Veterinary Professional Interest Group (KMPV) of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UNAIR continues. Last weekend, the committee and several volunteers visited the Child Welfare Institution, the BJ Habibie orphanage.

On the previous day, the committee had carried out various events such as live education through FHAT Instagram live and distribution of eggs to faculty management, the student, and the general public.

Interviewed by the UNAIR NEWS team on September 13, Idris Indrawan as Head of the 2021 FHAT committee, explained that the visit aimed to educate the importance of consuming chicken and eggs to the Child Welfare Institution (orphanage, ed).

“Yesterday’s offline visit was to BJ Habibie orphanage, located in Keputih, Surabaya. We provide materials related to chicken and eggs through effective learning media,” explained Idris.

Idris said that the committee first planned to have an educational visit at an elementary school because elementary level schools would be opened. However, in the end, it was changed due to the extensions of the PPKM policy.

“The result of the extension of the PPKM policy at that time was an economic downturn, so we made the system like a social project,” said Idris.

In its implementation, the committee also invited a speaker from the sponsor, drh. Yunan. The material presented by drh. Yunan is concerned with chickens and eggs, especially regarding hoaxes that are often circulated.

“For example, chickens that are injected with hormones, even though they are vaccines,” said Idris.

Furthermore, Idris said that the material was delivered by drh. Yunnan is very amusing, so the kids are full of excitement, and they can laugh out loud.

Then, games were held as an ice breaker so that the children would not feel bored. The educational visit involved part of the committee and several properties that support learning. The committee also donated 20kg of eggs to the orphanage.

“With this event, the orphanage children will understand the benefits of chicken meat and eggs better, and of course, their needs will be fulfilled and not consumed by hoaxes that are circulating,” said Idris.

At the end, Idris and the committee hoped that the distribution of eggs and pamphlets could educate so that the public could avoid chicken with formalin that is still in the market.
