UNAIR NEWS – The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia initiated an independent campus program called Freedom of Learning Independent Campus (MBKM). Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) fully supports it by making regulations related to the MBKM program. The goal is for students to propose course credit conversion of the study program easily.

Therefore, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR has organized a briefing for students regarding MBKM outbound activities. FEB UNAIR held dissemination on how to fill out the Study Plan Card (KRS) conversion. Besides, the Freedom of Learning program also allows students to apply for course credit conversion of their achievements during their studies.

Dr. Wisnu Wibowo SE., M.Si, as the Vice Dean I of FEB UNAIR, revealed that FEB students’ achievements can be converted to either Thesis course credit or non-thesis course credits, depending on their achievements. FEB UNAIR needs to design an implementation scheme including conversion techniques that do not conflict with the applicable regulations at UNAIR.

“The goal of MBKM is to achieve certain competencies that will support the profile of FEB UNAIR graduates in order to improve their professionalism in the formal, informal, or even entrepreneurship fields by opening new job opportunities,” he explained.

Activity schemes

One of the assessments in the independent campus program is how many students study outside of their campus. To achieve this target, student data records in odd semesters will be collected through the cyber campus with the academic advisor’s approval and recommendation from the head of the study program.

“In carrying out the program, students need to be included in the higher education scheme in the study program. We do not allow students to carry out MBKM activities without the acknowledgment of the lecturer (academic advisor, ed) or academic affairs unit,” he explained.

In general, there are eight forms of learning outside of college, including internship programs, village projects, teaching in schools, student exchanges, research, entrepreneurial activities, independent studies, and humanitarian projects. All of these projects can be converted to course credits or student credits. “Of course, there are terms and conditions that apply and need to be understood together,” he explained.

Five procedures

Dr. Wisnu Wibowo SE., M.Si explained five general steps to participate in the MBKM program at FEB UNAIR. First, after receiving MBKM information, the students need to ask for approval from the head of the study program and the academic advisor.

“Then, the study program will review the MBKM activities that the students will participate in. If the proposal is appropriate, the students can register themselves,” said Wisnu.

Third, the academic advisor should approve the proposal via cyber campus. Furthermore, the academic advisor should accompany and monitor the students’ activities. After that, the study program’s conversion team and the Student Achievement Assistance Center (P3M) will review the MBKM activities’ results and provide recommendations for the score. “Finally, the Academic Affairs team will process the Academic Report Card (KHS) scores,” he concluded.
