UNAIR NEWS – A total of 8,174 new students were inaugurated online by the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak, on Monday, August 30, 2021. They are new undergraduate and vocational students admitted through the SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and Independent admission pathways.

On that occasion, the Rector emphasized that face-to-face learning is not a factor for one’s success despite being in a pandemic. According to him, several variables determine students’ success. In addition to infrastructure, teaching staff, there are intrinsic factors from within students.

“Intrinsic factors in students are their commitment and desire to continue studying,” said the Rector. “The learning process is only 30 percent (face to face, ed). The rest is your own learning process,” he continued.

Furthermore, the Rector gave some advice to students who have officially become part of Universitas Airlangga. According to him, there are four learners’ characteristics that must be possessed by students. The four characteristics are:

    1. Open-minded

“Our openness and willingness to accept new ideas and views, knowledge, opinions, ideas, is fundamental. People who are not open-minded will stick with their ideas without seeing that they are only a small part of this world,” said the Rector.

  1. Think logically and systematically

On this characteristic, the Rector appealed to students to avoid looking for scapegoats or sacrificing other people. “Thinking systematically will let us know the root of every problem to find a solution. Also, avoid unverified information,” said the Rector.

  1. Flexible

“Flexibility is important to be a true learner. Your ability to change yourself, be flexible, develop your capacity is the key to keep learning. You are now required to be a person who is always open-minded and ready to be criticized,” said the Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR.

  1. Dare to take risks

Not to forget, the Rector congratulated all students who succeeded in becoming part of UNAIR students. He also congratulated the parents of students who had made their sons and daughters become part of UNAIR.

“You are the chosen and selected people. I congratulate you all. Congratulations to the parents who have led their children to this point. Use this opportunity as well as possible,” said the Rector. (*)
