UNAIR NEWS – To explore the richness and diversity of Taiwan’s culture, Asia University Taiwan invited 14 students of Traditional Medicine (Battra) UNAIR  Faculty of Vocational Studies to join Online Summer Programs.

In this international program, five courses are offered, including Language & Culture, Interdisciplinary Global Health, Community Care Practice in Taiwan, Innovation and Decision, and Web Design. It was held virtually from July 5 to August 20, 2021.

The Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Anwar Ma’ruf, drh., M.Kes, encouraged all his students to join this program. “The opportunity that students get to gain knowledge is also fully funded,” he said during the program promotion last July.

Language and Culture

Bunga Azka Salsabilla Afandi, Battra Class of 2019 student, became the PIC of the program. She took a course in the field of Language and Culture accompanied by Rarasanti Rania Qodri. During the course, the languages used are English and Mandarin.

They learned about everyday conversation, the culture of drinking tea in Taiwan, making dumplings, religion, and paper cutting or making wall decorations using Chinese characters.

The reason Bunga joined the summer program was supported by her strong desire to master Mandarin. Moreover, the study program she took needs that language.

Innovation and Decision

In the Innovation and Decision Course, Jihan Aura shared that she learned about the way of thinking in decision-making for organizations and businesses.

She said the course was quite interesting. “Because the lessons taught are quite varied, starting from technology such as learning python and R language for programming,” said Jihan.

“Financial innovation, fintech, big data, data analytics, game theory, and real options,” she continued.

In this program, students often formed a group to do teamwork , so they got familiar and know other students coming from other universities.

Web Design

The thing that is no less challenging is the Web Design Course. There is only one Battra student from the Class of 2018, Syifa Aulia. She received a final project challenge in the form of a task to create a web page. Previously she received lessons that covered the basics of programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Community Care Practice In Taiwan

There is also a course most in-demand, Community Care Practice in Taiwan, with seven students from UNAIR. They learned various topics such as community resource center, jiuzheng community center, local culture restoration & communities in Taiwan, formosan aboriginal culture village, fu tian community center, and so on.

Interdisciplinary Global Health

Next, five students participated in Interdisciplinary Global Health, the second course with the most enthusiast and crucial topic. They focus on health issues in various countries, such as hospice care and spirituality, caregiver training policy, mental health in Taiwan, community health nursing in Indonesia, and other topics.

Interestingly, the group represented by UNAIR student, Rarasanti Rania Qodri, was chosen to be the best group in this course. (*)
