UNAIR NEWS – Ladu ketan is a Mojokerto specialty made from white glutinous rice and white glutinous rice flour. Generally, this food is produced by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a simple frying pan.

The absence of a frying pan with adequate capacity has made ladu ketan production take a long time. In addition, the lack of workers is also one of the obstacles to accelerating its production.

From this problem, several Universitas Airlangga students in MERGOLA Student Creativity Program (PKM) team in collaboration with the people of Mojokerto, East Java, created ladu ketan frying machine.

Elfira Nanda as the team leader revealed that this collaboration could help the production issue in the MSMEs. The goal is to improve the quality and quantity of their products.

“We have an interest in traditional snacks MSMEs. The product we created can be useful and help with production problems for MSMEs to improve the quality and quantity of their products,” she said on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

Elfira said that the business, which she had been engaged in since December last year, focused on the machine use result, including capacity, time, and also product quality.

“To overcome the problems faced by partners in terms of capacity, time, workers, and also product quality. With this product, the capacity in one production can be ten times the usual capacity. Ladu ketan is also cooked more evenly than using conventional tools,” she said.

That way, she continued, the time needed is also much shorter. The workforce required can be less than before.

Elfira and the team embrace ladu ketan MSMEs as partners to run the business, especially in Jetis Sub-district, Mojokerto, East Java. They are users of the frying machine.

In the future, Nizar hopes that MERGOLA can increase the productivity of existing partners. And the frying machine could soon get a patent.

“Hopefully, this tool can increase partners’ productivity and help partners develop their businesses,” Nizar concluded. (*)
