UNAIR NEWS – The World Universities Association for Community Development (WUACD) 2021 Thematic Summer Programs on Dairy Cattle Business commenced officially on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. The program is a collaboration of three faculties at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), and the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).

WUACD Thematic Summer Programs will take place for a few days until August 12, 2021. Dairy Health, Milking, and Housing Management activities are scheduled on August 3, 2021, International Webinar, Feed Management and Dairy Workshop: Yoghurt Discussion on August 4, 2021, International Workshop, Technology, and Business Development Topics on August 5, 2021, International Workshop, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and final presentation on August 12, 2021.

On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Community Development, said that universities have important roles and responsibilities in community development, not only as ivory towers that solely produce trained workers for the local and global environment.

“Teaching is no longer the only main focus of higher education, while community service has become highly valued additional responsibility of universities over the last few years due to the changing nature of society in globalization, networking, closer ties with the community, development of service industries and production-based knowledge,” she said.

Based on research data, supported by advances in science and technology and the ability to integrate existing resources, higher education can play an important role in community development to improve the quality of life. To make the role of higher education more effective, she continued, it is necessary to build the World Universities Association for Community Development (WUACD) to collaborate and coordinate efforts to respond to global challenges. They include issues related to poverty, health, inequality, climate, environment, degradation, prosperity, peace, and justice in every part of the world as stated in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

“Through WUACD, universities around the world will work together, hand in hand cooperation and collaboration to actively participate in the community development process,” he explained.

The main function of WUACD is to build and develop cooperation and collaboration between Universitas Airlangga and universities and institutions with various nationalities and academic backgrounds to improve people’s welfare and overcome global challenges related to poverty, health, inequality, climate change, environment, peace, and social justice.
