UNAIR NEWS – The war on drugs seems endless. As an effort to reduce the high number of drug cases, the Ministry of Social Affairs of Student Executive Board (BEM) UNAIR held a national seminar entitled “Together to Eradicate Drug Abuse for Indonesia’s Golden Generation.” In commemoration of the International Anti-Drug Day, the activity presented three expert speakers in their fields: H. Dr. Bambang Soesatyo, S.E., M.B.A., as chairman of the MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) RI, Drs. Mohammad Aris Purnowo as Head of the BNN (National Narcotics Board) in East Java, Major General TNI (The National Military of Indonesia) Suharyanto as Commander of Kodam (Regional Military Command) V Brawijaya, and Head of Police in East Java, Inspector General Police Nico Afinta.

Located in the Garuda Mukti Hall, Campus C UNAIR, UNAIR students represented by Diza Mevia Rosalfino declared an anti-drug movement. There are three points conveyed as a statement of attitude towards the high number of drug cases as follows:

  1. Condemn all forms of abuse and illegal acts related to narcotics in East Java, especially the city of Surabaya.
  2. Committed to cooperating with the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of East Java to eradicate abuse and illegal acts related to narcotics.
  3. Inviting the entire academic community of Universitas Airlangga to take part in eradicating abuse and illegal acts related to narcotics in any form.

“Narcotics are artificial substances that have a negative impact when misused. Of course, we need to pay attention and take actions upon these problems,” he stressed in the seminar held on Monday, June 28, 2021.

In line with the declaration, Drs. Mohammad Aris Purnomo, as Head of BNN in East Java hoped that later BNN and UNAIR students could also work together through Desa Bersinar program (Free-from-drugs Village program whose purpose is to eradicate drug abuse in villages). Desa Bersinar program is one of the projects from BNN in East Java that focuses on community empowerment by providing business training so that the community does not fall prey to drugs.

“Students through UNAIR KKN activities can later become one of the agents who build Desa Bersinar. Therefore, we are ready to provide supplies and work well together,” he concluded.
