UNAIR NEWS – After arriving in Indonesia, Mr. Takeyama Kenichi, the new Japanese Consulate General in Surabaya, is ready to carry out several work programs. One of them is continuing the collaboration that has been established with Universitas Airlangga.
The visit of the Japanese Consulate General with Ms. Tsumura Moe as the Japanese Vice-Consul in Surabaya and Dr. Serman Salim, Head of the Japanese Alumni Association for East Java, was welcomed by UNAIR Rector on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Prof. Dr. Moh. Nasih as UNAIR Rector, also opened the meeting in the Rector’s Meeting Room of Campus C UNAIR.
On that occasion, Prof. Nasih gave a warm welcome to the Japanese Consul General in Surabaya. Prof. Nasih opened with a statement that UNAIR’s cooperation with the Japanese Government, especially with some of the best universities in Japan, has been going well since the beginning.
“We have cooperated with Japan very often. However, due to the current pandemic conditions, the cooperation is slightly reduced,” he explained.
The UNAIR Faculty of Economics and Business professor also explained several campuses that often collaborate with UNAIR. Collaboration with Osaka University, Hiroshima University, and Kobe University has been intensive in terms of research.
“Many activities often carried out are research, especially the one related to tropical diseases. They are always carried out together,” he said.
At UNAIR, continued Prof. Nasih, UNAIR Institute of Tropical Disease, has conducted intensive collaboration with Japanese universities. Hence, he hoped that the cooperation related to research development would continue.
“We also hope that in the future, the Japanese Government can support the cooperation for the sake of better research quality,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Mr. Takeyama Kenichi, in his speech, said that in addition to being an introduction as the new Japanese Consulate General in Surabaya, his visit to UNAIR was intended to continue the cooperation that has been running so far. Moreover, he said, his party also wanted to plan programs that could be carried out in Surabaya.
“Of course, we also really want cooperation in the form of student exchanges, and according to President Jokowi’s mandate regarding the development of human resources, we can run it here,” he explained.
On this occasion, Mr. Takeyama Kenichi also hoped for a lot of advice and guidance regarding the things he carries out while serving as the Japanese Consulate General in Surabaya.
“Through this meeting, of course, we will gladly accept advice,” he concluded.
