UNAIR NEWS – One of the young lecturers of International Relations (HI) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has taken part in the Global Youth Climate Challenges (GYCC) in South Korea. Annisa Pramatasari, S.Hub.Int., M.Sc., participated in the forum which is a part of the P4G Seoul Summit 2021.
Representing Indonesia on May 26-29, Icha shared how she gathered with other youths from various countries to discuss ideas and business projects aimed at environmental conservation and climate change management.
“We were divided into six teams. My team consists of postgraduate students from the United States, Britain, the Philippines, India, Denmark, South Korea, Russia, and Argentina. At that time, we presented the idea of a project related to marine and river,” explained the course lecturer on Society, Culture and Politics (MBP) of the Korean Peninsula.
The project developed by a team called Waterrific aimed to reduce plastic waste in the waters by synchronizing the color of the recycling bin and turning waste into useful items for coastal communities. The drafting process of the idea took three weeks and carried out online.
The background of Icha’s participation in GYCC 2021 was from Icha’s habit of practicing the concept of less plastic both in everyday life and her social media campaign.
“Even though I don’t have a research background on the environment, what I practiced and campaigned for was enough to get me elected. Moreover, the event has a similar theme, zero waste,” added Icha, who has been in South Korea since 2018.
In the same event, Icha also had the opportunity to receive a certificate of participation from the former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. GYCC 2021, a part of the P4G Seoul Summit, is an international forum to collect creative ideas and international youth aspiration in supporting nature’s protection and climate management. It was held online and offline, so only those in South Korea can participate in this event in person.
“Environmental and climate issues will always be an interesting theme. For those of you who want to participate in this kind of forum, you just need to show your knowledge and great attention to the issues being discussed,” she concluded. (*)
