This case triggered many responses from netizens, including a specialist in Urology from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), dr. Johan Renaldo, Sp.U.
“Hypospadias is a congenital abnormality in the genitals, to be precise in the external genitalia. As a result of this abnormality, the urinary hole, which is normally at the tip of the penis, is at the bottom, “he said.
Despite having a physical abnormality, hypospadias does not cause any abnormalities in the urinary system. “From the urinary system, everything is normal. The problem is only the shape of the penis and also the location of the urethral opening,” he added.
He continued, these abnormalities often occur in Indonesia. The Head of the Urogenital Invasive Installation (IIU) RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya, also mentioned that hypospadias is the second most common congenital urological disorder in pediatric patients.
Furthermore, dr. Johan also mentioned that various factors could cause this disorder.
“The cause could be due to a genetic error that causes developmental disorders during pregnancy, impaired endocrine production, or the failure of the receptors to accept the existing testosterone hormone,” he explained.
From the point of view of Andrology, a specialist in Andrology, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), dr. Agustinus, Sp.And also conveyed the impact of this disorder.
“In terms of semen quality, severe hypospadias patients have a lower concentration and percentage of active spermatozoa movement than mild hypospadias patients and normal men,” he explained.
The doctor who serves as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Andrology Specialist Education Study Program also explained a study that showed a lower possibility of impregnation from hypospadias patients.
To avoid the wrong gender detection in Hypospadias cases, dr. Agustinus suggested a referral action for further examination. “If there is any doubt about gender, it should be referred to a more qualified health facility, so it is known precisely, and the handling can be faster,” he added. (*)
