UNAIR NEWS – During Covid-19 pandemic, job security is needed to support nurses in carrying out their jobs as they are at the frontline, assisting with the Covid-19 patients’ treatments.
At Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA), the management provides job security for nurses. It is provided in terms of security, health and safety of 446 nursing staff at RSUA. This effort was conveyed by the Director of RSUA Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, Sp.PD., KPTI-FINASIM during the commemoration of the 47th National Nurse Day celebrated at RSUA on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
In the commemoration, Prof. Nasronudin acknowledged the vital role of nurses as an operational element of healthcare services which make direct contact with patients.
“During the pandemic, the role of nurses is very important as one of the main determinants of patient recovery,” he explained.
In providing security, health and safety to all staff, RSUA provides sophisticated health services and facilities that can assist the work of nurses.
“We have complete communication tools, the use of robotic technology, an adequate number of PPE, sophisticated medical equipment, and separate buildings for Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients. Everything is done to make nurses’ job easier and maintain their safety, “said Prof. Nasronudin.
Furthermore, RSUA also guarantees the physical and psychological health of the nurses by providing vitamins, nutrition, psychological support, and working time management to avoid fatigue and stress. Nursing Manager of RSUA Prof.. Kusnanto, S.Kp., M.Kes. also said that nurses have an important role in maintaining the psychological health of patients so that their recovery rate can be better.
“Therefore, we provide psychological supervision and support for nurses regularly. Hopefully, their enthusiasm and service will remain at best, so they to transmit the enthusiasm to patients, “said the Professor of Faculty of Nursing UNAIR.
Through RSUA’s assurance and services to nurses, RSUA has recorded a high recovery rate of Covid-19 patients. So through this event, the RSUA officials also gave appreciation by distributing gifts to patients and giving Nurse Idol award for outstanding RSUA nurses.
“We hope that this commemoration can be a medium for new enthusiasm and energy for our nurses who have struggled in handling the pandemic this year. We also hope that in the future the government will pay more attention to the welfare of nurses, whether through incentives, civil servant status, or clear guarantees for their future careers, ” concluded Prof. Nasronudin.
