UNAIR NEWS – The Covid-19 pandemic has not hindered Fitrul Azmi Eka Farhana to make achievement. With various limitations, the undergraduate student of Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has won 3rd place in the 2020 MTQ Dentistry Quranic Competition. Held by FKG Universitas Brawijaya Malang, a competition entitled Creating a Generation of Rabbani with a Qur’anic Spirit was followed by participants from FKG students throughout Indonesia.
Fitrul said that it was the first time for her to take part in an online Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) competition. Fitrul shared her unique experience of having to record her own MTQ video to be sent to the committee as assessment material.
“All competitions are online, from registration, video submission, to announcement of champions. I only got help from my brother when I took the video. When I was recording, I didn’t have a microphone, so my video tool was just a camera. Finally, I had to recite out loud so that it can be heard clearly on the video,” said the student from Ponorogo.
For her performance, Fitrul recited Surah Al-Baqarah: 21-24. Asked about her MTQ skills, Fitrul revealed that she had been learning and practicing MTQ since elementary school at the encouragement of her parents. However, facing this competition, Fitrul did not make any special preparations, apart from taking the time to practice after maghrib prayers.
“I didn’t join student activity unit, there was a pandemic too. So I practice by myself at home. Alhamdulillah, my assignments did not disrupt my practice, I always make time after maghrib for training. Always try to be consistent and adjust to my own needs, ” she added.
In the competition, there are five main aspects of assessment, namely tone of voice, rhythm, manners in carrying al-qur’an, makharijul letters, and tajwid. Until the day of the announcement on Sunday, November 15, 2020, Fitrul managed to win third place defeating other national participants.
From this achievement, Fitrul said that her family and friends were very supportive. Seeing her FKG friends making many achievements is one of the triggers for Fitrul’s enthusiasm to make achievements despite a pandemic situation.
With this victory, Fitrul hoped that in the future she can make good reputation of UNAIR or even Indonesia. “I also want to spread enthusiasm to my fellow students so they can continue to be creative, innovative, and make achievements. I am sure that a pandemic or any situation will not stop the enthusiasm of youth to continue to excel, ” she said. (*)
