UNAIR NEWS – Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources. However, this potential is not followed by excellent human resources. It happens in Ko’ol Village, Klampis sub-district, Bangkalan Regency, East Java. This village has great potential, both human resources and technology, but has not been used properly.

From these problems, several students from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) and members of the holistic program of village empowerment and development (PHP2D) Muslim Student Intellectual Jama’ah Faculty of Science and Technology (JIMM FST) empower the villagers of Ko’ol to build a solar power plant for pumping water for irrigating rice fields and street lights.

Ahmad Rosyid Ridlo, the chairman, said that in addition to development, he also plans assistance efforts to use, maintain, and develop the solar power plant. It is done so that villagers can take advantage of it in the long term and become a model for other villages.

“The second program is that we will hold training, socialization, and assistance related to pond fish processing, which is expected to increase the selling value of the local people’s pond fish,” said the Physics student on (2/11/20).

For Rosyid, the reason for choosing Ko’ol Village was the lack of lighting even though there is already access to electricity. The public street lighting is very minimal. As a result, there is a decrease in the productivity of residents at night. In addition, he continued, there were complaints from residents regarding the need for clean water. Generally, surface water resources on Madura Island depend on rainfall.

“This activity is in collaboration with the village, of course, and the plan is to collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Energy and Mineral Resources, ed), PLN (State Electricity Company, ed), and also the Agriculture Office to support our program,” added the chairman of the 2019 JIMM.

With this program, Rosyid hoped that the activity or program can benefit the villagers by making the community independent through solar power plants distributed for water pumps and village street lighting. Furthermore, by holding training and assistance in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.

“So that after the program, Ko’ol Village can become a role model or pilot village for the Klampis Sub-district and other sub-districts villages in Bangkalan. Moreover, we hope that this program can more or less help the government in accelerating the transfer of information and technology for rural communities,” he concluded. (*)
