UNAIR NEWS – The inauguration of 16 deans has marked the faculty level leadership handover at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). One of the deans who was inaugurated on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 was Prof. Dr. Moh. Yasin M.Si. He was appointed Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) for 2020-2025 period.
The pandemic did not dampen the enthusiasm of Prof. Yasin in carrying out this new mandate. After being inaugurated, Prof. Yasin has done some tasks offline at the faculty by fulfilling health protocols.
Regarding the teaching and learning process, Prof. Yasin said that the policy regarding lectures, especially activities in the laboratory during pandemic, had been planned with a combination of online and offline learning. However, the existence of Covid-19 cases that continues to rise, will be discussed further.
He said, in the eighth week of academic calendar, student practicum activities will be determined, either to be carried out online or offline.
“Several lecturers have decided to go full online for practicum during this pandemic. Laboratory research for theses, dissertations and lecturer research, will be done in shifts so not all can enter simultaneously, by implementing health protocols, some students can enter the laboratory, “said the lecturer who focuses on Optics.
Furthermore, regarding the new breakthroughs in his leadership for the next five years, Prof. Yasin emphasized that SMART University is a new breakthrough by organizing adaptive education and an adaptive curriculum according to the needs of 4.0 industry based on smart education.
In research field, he continued, in addition to producing publications with Scopus indexed quality, the faculty will also increases student involvement in lecturer research, especially master and doctoral students.
The Head of Department of Physics for 2015-2020 period added that students’ involvement in research can increase citation from the increasing publications. Furthermore, an integrated group research group that comes from various kinds of cross-fields, cross study programs, and cross groups of expertise from various fields in FST can be created.
“So, it could produce a comprehensive scientific study, which has an impact on a more valuable and quality output,” said the researcher ranked 26th in 2019 National SINTA ranking award.
In the field of community service, Prof. Yasin explained that community service activities in line with FST competence should be from collaboration with industry to achieve more impact on society. In addition, accelerated research innovations that are ready for commercialization and patents are encouraged for academic business units (SUA).
In the end, Prof. Yasin emphasized that in the future FST will cooperate with top universities from within and outside the country. “So that we get a more varied academic peer list from various countries, including ASEAN, Europe and America. That way it can boost the performance of university and also programs, “he said. (*)
