UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) leaderships have officially expelled the student who allegedly sexually harassed other students on the pretense of academic research. The alleged student, G, was suspected to commit harassment in the form of a fetish act ‘bondage mummification’ to other fellow students.
UNAIR has discussed the issue with the alleged perp’s family. To UNAIR’s ethics commission, the family regretted G’s actions. The family also accepted the decision given by the university.
For this reason, after holding a meeting with the family, UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih with the ethics commission of UNAIR decided to expel the student who was in his fifth year. Prof. Nasih also emphasized that the student from Faculty of Humanities has tarnished the good name and reputation of UNAIR.
“We consider this G’s case to tarnish the good name and reputation of UNAIR as a state university with core values, Excellence with Morality,” he said.
The decision, continued Prof. Nasih, was made after a lot of considerations. First, by paying attention to the complaints of victims who were harassed and humiliated by the perp’s action.
“We came to the decision after also listening to his family’s clarification,” said Prof. Nasih.
Therefore, continued Prof. Nasih, the deviant behavior of the student from Class of 2015 has been harmful to many parties and the university officially expelled him.
“Regarding the next process, either legal process or other process, of course, the university will let the authorities handle the matter,” concluded Prof. Nasih.
