Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. More than 3 million deaths are caused by CHD and estimated to increase by 23.3 million by 2030. Coronary heart disease characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaque (an obstruction in blood vessels due to inflammation and fat deposits), which causes blood circulation disorders. This plaque can also rupture and cause blood clots or thrombus that closes part or all of the blood vessels, causing symptoms of chest pain and even death due to heart attack.

There is complementary nursing (complement), which has been shown to inhibit the process of atherosclerotic plaque formation and inflammatory process, so the size of the plaque does not enlarge, and the plaque does not break easily, or in other words reduce the risk of a heart attack. The intervention was spiritual mind-body nursing care. Nurses provide nursing care to patients with coronary heart disease. The intervention covered a combination of deep breathing exercises, remembrance, prayer, and stress management skills.

The intervention was proven to increase the spirituality of coronary heart disease sufferers, which was marked by an increase in patience, endeavor and not despair, as well as submission to God’s will for his illness. These complementary interventions have also been shown to control some substances in the body that have a negative impact or, in other words, increase the formation of plaque, which is a protein that plays a role in thickening atherosclerotic plaque. Thus, nurses and other health workers need to help sufferers of coronary heart disease get complementary nursing care in the form of spiritual mind-body care because the ease of doing and economically does not require costs.
