UNAIR NEWS – Tiffany Josephine Hidayat or known as Tiffany, Faculty of Dentistry undergraduate student completed her study with a thesis entitled “Spirulina Induction Effect of 12% and 20% Chitosan in post-extraction Sockets of Wistar Rat (Rattus norvegicus) Diabetes Mellitus model on TNF-α Expression”. The thesis related to the ability of spirulina and chitosan combination gels in reducing TNF-α proinflammatory cytokines in tooth extraction wounds in experimental animals with diabetes mellitus.
In the research process, one of the obstacles faced by Tiffany is when the process of induction of diabetes mellitus into experimental animals. Despite being given streptozotocin, there are still some experimental animals that are not affected by diabetes, so they must be excluded from the study.
“I have more animal samples in case I need that later,” he said.
During her studies, Tiffany was active in FKG UNAIR Christian and Catholic Spirituality Sie organization for three years. One of the most memorable achievements for Tiffany was being a presentation at the International Association for Dental Research Southeast Asia (IADR-SEA) conference in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Tiffany is currently undergoing a professional clinic at the Keputih Health Center. In the future, Tiffany plans to work or continue specialist studies immediately.
For undergraduate students who are struggling to complete their studies, Tiffany advised that they have to finish it, even though sometimes can be challenging. If something unexpected happens, don’t overthink and force yourself to participate in many activities as well.
