UNAIR NEWS – Right in front of FKG UNAIR Building on Sunday, January 19, 2020, 2020 DENTINE balloons and posters were released into the air and it marked the opening of Dentistry Intellectual Challenge (DENTINE) this year. The program is held annually by Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) and is now entering its eighth year of organization.
For eight years, DENTINE is a forum for students in Indonesia to compete while preparing to enter higher education, especially FKG. Each year, DENTINE becomes the most awaited event by thousands of high school students in Indonesia.
Vice Dean I FKG UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Anita Yuliati, drg., M. Kes, who was present at the opening of 2020 DENTINE expressed her deepest gratitude for the success of the event each year. According to her, DENTINE is a strategic work program that is able to encourage high school students to continue to college.
“We always develop the event and expand its reach every year. As of now, from western to eastern Indonesia, there are DENTINE local representatives throughout the country. The great enthusiasm of students every year also encourages us to continue holding DENTINE, “said Prof. Anita.
The preliminary round, as well as the opening, was held on Sunday, January 19, while the semifinals, finals, and grand finals will be held on January 25 and 26 at FKG UNAIR campus. In addition to the science olympiad, there is also an essay competition (Descom) and sports competition (D-Start) which is also intended for high school students in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, according to Head of BEM FKG UNAIR Achmad Chasina Aula, this year there is additional competition, poster competition. It was chosen because millennials nowadays is very familiar with gadgets and many are good at creative design.
“We gave the millennial student a place to compete to show their creativity, it will trigger their enthusiasm. Dentine is actually also a place to introduce FKG to all students, because most of them only know Faculty of Medicine (FK), ” she said.
Sina also expressed her appreciation to the spirit of 2020 DENTINE committee who spend their holiday to prepare and implement DENTINE. He hoped that the implementation of DENTINE every year can provide access to information and preparation for high school students to get into FKG and campus world.
Furthermore, DENTINE is the only competition in Indonesia that facilitates students in preparing themselves to study at FKG. The questions at the science olympiad are not much different from what will be used by high school students for UTBK. (*)
