UNAIR NEWS –The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment of Student Executive Board (BEM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a routine study called Karin Batch 3 entitled Alpha Female: Your Very First Weapon Should be Your Voice on Saturday (31/8/2019). The activity in Lecture Hall B of FKG UNAIR was a follow-up study on women’s empowerment from Karin Batch 1, which discussed sexual assault. Furthermore, the study attended by more than 200 students, also aims to introduce the Help Center as a counseling forum that is ready to assist students in overcoming personal problems.
Dr. Liestianingsih Dwi Dayanti Dra., M.Sc., as the General Chair of the UNAIR Help Center, invited participants to be brave in saying ‘no’ to protect themselves from sexual harassment. She also explained that all activities of men that make women feel uncomfortable are acts of sexual harassment.
“Don’t be afraid to fight, report the perpetrators to the authorities or contact the UNAIR Help Center! We will not reveal the identity of the victim,” explained the Lecturer of Communication Studies at FISIP UNAIR.
As chairman of the committee, Pauline Ciuputri stated that the theme in Karin batch 3 was motivated by the inability of some women to defend themselves using their hands. So the easiest thing to do is to speak up.

One of the Karin Alpha Female participants, Eza said she was happy to be able to participate in the activity. She explained that such activities could open her horizons and give her courage to expose sexual harassment. He also hoped that all UNAIR academics, especially Karin participants, would be more aware of women’s dignity and take advantage of the Help Center provided by the campus to provide security for women.
In the end, Dr Liestianingsih also stated that the UNAIR Help Center opens opportunities for students to become volunteers. It is an effort so that students who make complaints or counseling at the Help Center feel more comfortable if the listeners are friends of the same age.
