The ups and downs of poultry egg production have become a cliche problem for farmers. Various ways have been tried by farmers, even many fertility enhancing vitamins circulated so that they can produce optimally, but the results still could not meet the needs of farmers. But it should not make farmers worry, Universitas Airlangga researchers have found alternative solutions to improve the productivity of laying poultry through a nutritional approach, by providing corn oil supplements in daily feeds of laying poultry such as chickens, ducks, and quails for several weeks. The farmers will harvest the results.
The UNAIR research team has long focused on studying various alternatives as a solution to the decreasing poultry egg production until they finally found the benefits of corn oil as a stimulant to layer production. This method has been tested on laying quails. Small doses of corn oil were given for several weeks in the production phase. Starting from 4th week the improvement was visible and production increased significantly. In the eighth week, there was an increase in productivity of the quail eggs, up to 28.3% compared to other quail populations that were not given corn oil.
Giving this type of vegetable oil is also very safe for quail health, proven from observations of the internal organs’ morphological performance, there is no significant difference compared to quails in general. It indicates that the provision of corn oil as a feed supplement of production is very safe and it even improves the performance of internal organs.
Most of the components of corn oil are omega 6, about 34-64%. A small amount of corn oil in feed gives many benefits, especially as a substance forming reproductive hormones. Because omega 6 can be synthesized in the body into cholesterol as a raw material for the estrogen hormone. Increasing this estrogen hormone will be followed by a surge in follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis, the hormone that triggers the formation of ovum/oocyte. As a result, more high-quality oocytes are formed so that poultry can lay eggs more than once in a day, more often than usual, the percentage of productivity can be improved greatly.
On the other hand, corn oil is not a bitter chemical drug. The addition of corn oil in the feed make the food taste more delicious, the poultry consume the feed well and the feed can be well absorbed by the intestine. From other studies, it was also proven that corn oil may act as a powerful anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer. It is very healthy and profitable, right?
