D3 Physiotherapy Learns to Handle Persons with Disability in Bantul

UNAIR NEWS – In order to improve the quality of students and deepen their knowledge of physiotherapy, the Student Welfare Education Department (Penkeswa) Student Association (Hima) of Psychotherapy Program Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an activity titled EQUINA. Empowering Quality of Physiotherapy with Penkeswa Airlangga (EQUINA) is an annual event attended by students of the second and fourth semester of D3 physiotherapy.

The activity was held in Bantul Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disability (BRTPD), Yogyakarta on Wednesday-Thursday, July 10-11, 2019. It was attended by 52 D3 Physiotherapy students and aimed to prepare fourth semester students who were going to undergo clinical practice at the hospital.

“In BRTPD, we learn how the role physiotherapy in dealing with persons with disabilities so it helps students to better understand the world of physiotherapy they focus on,” explained Donny Rachmawan as the chief executive.

Donny said, students also need to know the professional world of physiotherapists in hospitals or health clinics. Students need to learn directly how to deal with patients with disabilities.

“We also learned from the various cases we found, such as Cerebral Palsy or nerve compression that limits their movements. We also saw complete equipment, “he said.

“We also get insight about new tools that we have never met and studied before, such as Cryotherapy,” stated Kharisma as one of the organizers.

Through this activity, D3 Physiotherapy student association also visited University of Aisyiyah for a comparative study. “We want to exchange ideas with Hima in other areas and learn more about physiotherapy and neurology with the Secretary General of Indonesian Physiotherapy Association who is the chairman of Physiotherapy Program at University of Aisyiyah,” she said.

“We hope that participants can take valuable lessons and can implement them in their studies and organization,” she added.

Previously, D3 Physiotherapy student association also held a similar activity at Joesoef Sport Massage Therapy in October 2018. (*)
